Tarot birth card calculator

The method adds the day, month and year of birth, then reduces the sum until it falls inside the Major Arcana range, from 0 to 21. If the intermediate sum is itself a valid arcanum, you get two cards: a personality card and a shadow card.

The card-to-date correspondence is a convention from tarot numerology, popularised by Angeles Arrien. There is no official version; other schools add the digits differently and land on a different card.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I have two cards?

When the digit sum is a two-digit number that still falls within the Major Arcana, both it and its reduction to a single digit are kept.

What happens if I get 22?

22 is read as 0, the Fool, because the Major Arcana stop at 21 and the cycle closes where it started.

Does the card change over time?

No, it depends only on your birth date. Year cards, which use the current year, are a separate calculation.
